Satan's daring attack

SPIRITUAL WARFARE
Read John 13:12-38

THE DEVIL’S WORK IS: STEAL, KILL, DESTROY
Here is one classic example of the work of satan in the work of destruction. He is a destroyer and in this case he attempts to do two things: kill and destroy. In relation to us today, satan focuses on whatever it is that he can steal from us and also on whatever it is that he can destroy. Let’s study this passage:

I- THE ACTIVITY OF SATAN IS MYSTERIOUS AND DARING. IT WAS A MOST SOLEMN EVENT: PASS-OVER (LORD’S SUPPER). IT WAS EXCLUSIVE AND LIMITED TO THE INNER CORE OF THE MINISTRY. HOWEVER, SATAN WAS THERE TARGETING ONE PERSON. This is how satan works: one person at a time. Choosing the most qualified candidate. What qualified judas as satan’s target? His love for money. Matt 26:14 Then one of the Twelve — the one called Judas Iscariot — went to the chief priests 15 and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?" So they counted out for him thirty silver coins. 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over. NIV

II- THE ATTACK OF SATAN WAS A WELL-PLANNED ATTACK WITH A DEFINITE INTENTION: TO REMOVE THE LEADER TO SCATTER THE GROUP: Matt 26:31 Then Jesus told them, "This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: "'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' NIV

III- The reaction of the Lord tells us of the need for wisdom in handling the devil’s attack: He could have stopped it, He did not. He could have exposed Judas so he does end up doing what he wants to do. But, the Lord told him: what you are about to do, do quickly. The Lord knows the plan of Judas but the Lord knows the outcome of satan’s attack, so He fought by letting it happen. Sometimes the best way to fight Satan is to believe in what God has planned for you or what God will do for you. He will work out all things together for our good.
